TWIN CHIMNEYS GARDEN CLUB PRESIDENT’S REPORT October 19, 2010

Since the beginning of the year, we have added 5 new members.

In May, we had our “Garden Tour”.  In addition to member’s yards, we included two of our service projects – our award winning ABC Children’s Garden at United Services Preschool in Dardenne Prairie and our newly renovated Butterfly Garden at the Twin Chimneys Elementary School.

June’s program was about “Butterflies in Missouri Gardens” which concluded with Butterfly Bingo.

In July, we had a “card-making from our gardens” workshop. We had fun using photos of our yards, gardens and flowers, stickers and pressed flowers to create lovely personalized cards.

September’s programs was “Attracting Birds to our Gardens” by Elaine Fix.

In October, our program will be the easy technique of “Lasagna Gardening.”

In addition to our regular programs, our club is planning to sponsor a Blue Star Memorial Highway Marker. We have the plans, the place and have been raising funds with a 50/50 raffle at every meeting and, after months of intensive preparation, we, along with VFW Post 5077, held our very successful Trivia Night last Saturday, Oct. 16th. Our profits were $6800! It has been amazing to see all our members step outside their comfort zones to do everything necessary to work together toward this worthy goal. Our next step is to place our Blue Star Memorial order, start lining up all the material and labor necessary to install the Highway Marker, plus plan the spring 2011 dedication ceremony. We hope many of you will plan to attend.

We have also voted to change our club name to be more inclusive. So for the very first time, we are publicly announcing our new name. We will now be known as O’Fallon Garden Club!

Barb Stettner, 2009 - 2011 O'Fallon Garden Club President
